Né le 1er août 1979 à Honolulu, Hawaï, Jason Momoa grandit à Norwalk, dans l'Iowa, avec sa mère photographe, avant de revenir dans son île natale à l'adolescence. À dix-neuf ans, il est repéré dans un magasin de surf et sélectionné parmi plus de 1 300 candidats pour rejoindre Alerte à Malibu (1999-2001), son premier rôle à l'écran. Couronné meilleur mannequin masculin de l'année à Hawaï en 1999, il enchaîne ensuite avec Stargate Atlantis (2005-2009), où il campe le guerrier Ronon Dex. La consécration internationale arrive en 2011 avec Game of Thrones, où son interprétation du khal Drogo impose sa présence unique à l'écran. Il intègre l'univers DC en 2016 dans le rôle d'Aquaman, personnage qu'il portera sur plusieurs films dont le film solo éponyme de 2018, recueillant plus d'un milliard de dollars de recettes mondiales. Acteur, producteur et réalisateur, il signe en 2014 le long métrage Road to Paloma et développe Chief of War, diffusée sur Apple TV+ en 2025. Il apparaît également dans Dune de Denis Villeneuve (2021) et Fast & Furious 10 (2023).
