Acteur irlandais né le 25 mai 1976 à Douglas, dans le comté de Cork, Cillian Murphy débute sa carrière sur les planches, notamment avec la pièce Disco Pigs d'Enda Walsh, qui tourne deux ans à travers l'Europe, le Canada et l'Australie. Il s'impose au cinéma en 2002 grâce au film d'horreur post-apocalyptique 28 Jours plus tard de Danny Boyle. Sa collaboration avec Christopher Nolan, amorcée avec Batman Begins (2005) où il incarne l'Épouvantail, se poursuit dans Inception (2010) et Dunkerque (2017). À partir de 2013, il tient le rôle principal de la série Peaky Blinders, incarnant Thomas Shelby sur six saisons, ce qui lui vaut deux Irish Film and Television Awards. En 2023, Nolan lui confie le rôle-titre d'Oppenheimer, performance saluée par un Oscar, un Golden Globe, un BAFTA et un SAG Award du meilleur acteur. Marié depuis 2004 à l'artiste Yvonne McGuinness, il est père de deux fils.
